A New Twist on No Child Left Behind

While debat Inflatable Pool continu on the pro' and con' of the well public "No child left behind Act", a small, privat fund Center for Children ha maintain a quiet, unwritten polici that no child will ever be left behind or turn awai becaus of a family' inabl to afford tuition.

For the past five year the Neuro-Linguist Learn Center in El Dorado Hill ha been help children, teen and adult overcom the effect of ADHD, Autism and other learn disabilities. While the profound success of their student have been well documented, their quiet polici of never turn a child awai sole for financi reason ha remain an import part of their commit to the Sacramento Commun and to the children and famili thei serve.

"Sai Gerald Hughes, Director of the NLC, "A the parent of sever children who previous struggl with learn challenges, I feel I have a profound appreci for the import of the work we do. If a famili is commit to get help or their child, we will do everyth we can to assist them--regardless of their financi situation."

Gerald take emphat except to the word, 'disability' and he refer to hi client as 'our children'. Some of the challeng the children who come to the NLC includ reading, writing, spelling, math, focu and attention, memorization, test-preparation, anxiety, lack of motivation, and even low self-esteem. Their diagnos mai includ Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperact Disord ADHD , Autism, Sensori Integrat Disorder, Auditori Process Disorder, Non-Verb Learn Disorder, compuls behaviors, and opposit defiance.

A ccord to Dr. Wishnatsky, an Educat Psychologist who serv the Sacramento area, as few as 20% of our children ar truli succeed in our school today. She estim that as mani as 60% of children ar struggl in on or more area and as mani as 20% ar complet failing. It also appear that the number of children fail is increasing.

Research also show that that, as struggl with educ increas for these children, so do neg behavior and social problems. Claudia Lowe, a Child Advocat sai that mani of these children will wind up on the 'detention-suspension-expuls track'. Thi mean that thei first begin receiv detent for either neg behavior or academ perform issues.

A problem mount and their frustrat with the system increases, behavior problem escal and detent turn into suspensions. Finally, the conflict and offenc escal to the point where the school feel justifi in expel them from the system.

With teacher' salari and school fund now be ti to children' grades, the pressur on ani child underperform is bound to increase. At thi point, we can onli guess at the long term consequ of thi increas pressure, but we do know that academ perform is the kei to a child' attitud and ultim success both in and out of the classroom.

For their part, the Neuro-Linguist Learn Center offer scholarship for children and teen as well as a wide varieti of program and tuition option to assist families. "A long as we'r here and there is room in our schedule", sai Gerald, "we will help as mani children as we can."

The Neuro-Linguist Learn Center is locat in El Dorado Hills, just 30 minut from downtown Sacramento. Parent and their children come from as far awai as Elk Grove, the Bai Area, Tahoe, and even Truckee, to get their children the help thei need.

In these time of budget cuts, downsiz and mandatori furloughs, it is gratifi that as least on compani is put the need of children first.
